Neer Ransomware

The Neer Ransomware is a new STOP/Djvu variant that has been unleashed in the wild. The threat doesn't exhibit any new functionalities or meaningful improvements. In fact, the main characteristic that distinguishes it from all the other variants in the STOP/Djvu Ransomware family is the file extensions it uses to mark locked files - '.neer.' However, users shouldn't underestimate Neer's destructive capabilities. If it executes successfully, the threat will encrypt all of the more widely used filetypes such as docs, PDFs, archives, databases, audio and video files. After all targeted files and encrypted, the Neer Ransomware will proceed to deliver its ransom note placing it inside newly generated files named '_readme.txt.'

Neer Ransomware's Demands

The note is identical to the typical STOP/Djvu ransom message. Victims of the threat are instructed to pay exactly $980 if they want to receive the decryption key and software tool that could potentially unlock the encrypted data. If the affected users contact the hackers within the first 72 hours of the ransomware attack, they would only have to pay $490, if the words of such unscrupulous people can be trusted.

Two email addresses are mentioned in the note as communication channels - 'manager@mailtemp.ch' and 'helpmanager@airmail.cc.' As part of the email message, users also can attach a single non-important file that will supposedly be decrypted for free.

Ransomware victims are strongly discouraged to enter into negotiations with cybercriminals, as doing so can expose them to further security risks.
