The mybrowserbar.com website contains a search engine that claims to be 'powered by Yahoo.' However, there have been reports of computer users being redirected to mybrowserbar.com. Most mybrowserbar.com redirects are a consequence of installing toolbars for your web browser. In some cases, these toolbars may be included with programs from legitimate sources, and even from trusted publishers. However, it is not an uncommon practice for criminals to take legitimate freeware programs and bundle them with browser hijackers and other malware (one reason why it is important to download software directly from the developer and never from third party websites). If your web browser is forcing you to visit mybrowserbar.com repeatedly, ESG malware researchers advise ensuring that your computer has not become infected with a browser hijacker. This is especially important if you have recently added a toolbar for any of your web browsers.

Most websites, mybrowserbar.com included, generate revenue based directly on online traffic. This means that the more visitors a website receives, the higher its potential revenue. Revenue from a website can come from various sources, the most important of these being advertising and sponsored links (which generate revenue for the website's owner each time a visitor clicks on them). While most websites will strive to provide quality content and services in order to attract visitors, criminals will manipulate the system by creating malware infections that force computer users to visit the website(s) of their choosing. These kinds of malware threats, known as browser hijackers will typically take over the victim's computer during specific times and force the victim's web browser to visit a particular website, such as mybrowserbar.com. This means that criminals can set up websites that receive a high number of visitors, but only because those visitors are being forced to visit that website against their will.

While it is important to remove any offending toolbars from your web browser, this will often not be enough to stop mybrowserbar.com redirects. This is because browser hijackers will often make alterations to the Windows Registry and to your computer's settings. In these cases, it is necessary to use a reliable anti-malware program in order to ensure that any malware is gone from your computer.
