At first glance, the Foodpuma.com website seems like an unfinished search engine, although it is quite likely that new malicious content (probably in the form of spam links and stolen 'news') will be added to this website in the future. Foodpuma.com has various clones, including creditpuma.com and internetpuma.com. The layout of this website features an ugly light blue background (clones of this website may also use an orange color in the background) with a cartoon puma wearing a suit and sunglasses on the left side of the page and the sign 'Super Search' on the upper-right corner of the web page. The rest of the website is blank as of February of 2012 but may potentially change in the future. While the Foodpuma.com website is not particularly dangerous, with no actual attack functions implemented, its traffic is fed through dangerous browser hijackers. Two main kinds of browser hijackers are associated with most Foodpuma.com-related redirects. The first kind is well known, usually in the form of a Trojan infection that attacks Windows operating systems and takes over the whole computer, changing how the infected computer connects to the Internet. The second kind of browser hijacker associated with Foodpuma.com is more uncommon and consists of a JavaScript infection that seems to operate in a way similar to the Google Redirect Virus. This gives Foodpuma.com-related malware the potential to infect other operating systems and, in fact, infections have been reported on iPads and other supposedly safe devices.

Symptoms of Foodpuma.com-Related Malware

The main symptoms of malware associated with Foodpuma.com are constant redirects to the Foodpuma.com web page and, in particular, changes to Google search results (this may also occur with well known search engines, such as Yahoo or Bing). This means that, while the results may appear normal, their links may have been changed to direct the victim to Foodpuma.com instead of to their intended website. Other computer users have also reported that an infected web browser may display the Foodpuma.com domain in the lower left corner when connecting to a web page, meaning that their traffic is passing through this website without their authorization, giving the criminals behind the browser hijacker the potential to track the victim's online activity. In the event of any of these symptoms, ESG Security researchers recommend turning JavaScript off and running full scans of the corrupted system with a dependable anti-malware application.
