EnterDiscovery

EnterDiscovery is classified as a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) that targets Mac users predominantly. The application is designed to generate monetary gains for its creators through Pay-Per-Click and Pay-Per-View remuneration methods. For that purpose, it has been equipped with adware and browser hijacker capabilities. EnterDiscovery is capable of affecting all major browsers on the Mac system.

Users also should know that PUPs such as EnterDiscovery are rarely installed intentionally. These applications, instead, rely on misleading and deceptive marketing tactics that hide the installation process of the PUP from the user's attention. The most popular methods are bundling and fake installer/updaters.

The presence of EnterDiscovery on the Mac will be felt almost immediately. The PUP will establish control over the browser to generate numerous advertising materials. Various pop-ups, banners, coupons, as well as pages displaying questionable content, will begin to flood the system. Understandably, this will lead to a drastically diminished user experience. Furthermore, EnterDiscovery could hijack the searches conducted in the browser and redirect them to the Bing search engine. The PUP could inject sponsored links into the result list and present them to the user.

The fact that nearly all PUP are capable of data-harvesting shouldn't be ignored by the users. Various browsing-related information could be collected, packaged, and exfiltrated to a remote server. Some PUPs even go after sensitive banking information or credit/debit card details if such data has been saved into the affected browser.
