DTTarget

DTTarget is a dubious application that tries to install itself on Mac systems. Typically, such programs employ one or more deceptive distribution tactics and users do not even realize that an intruder application is being delivered to their computers. Two such methods are bundling and fake installers/updaters for more desirable software products. This underhanded behavior classifies DTTarget as a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program). It is extremely likely that users got alerted to the presence of this application on their Macs after encountering a system pop-up stating that 'DTTarget will damage their computers.'

PUPs often act as a combination of adware and browser hijackers. They can run an intrusive advertising campaign while taking over the user's Web browser and modifying its settings simultaneously. The generated advertisements cannot be trusted, as they often lead to questionable or unsafe third-party websites via forced redirects. As for the Web browser, users will notice that the homepage, new tab page, and the default search engine have now been assigned to open an unfamiliar address. In nearly all cases, the browser hijacker application is used to promote a fake search engine.

PUPs have another worrying characteristic, as the vast majority of these dubious programs also possess data-harvesting capabilities. While present on the system, the PUP could monitor the user's browsing activities (visited websites, clicked URLs and conducted searches) and then transmit the acquired data to a remote server.

To clean your Mac from PUPs completely, you may need to scan it with a professional security product. The reason is that some PUPs establish persistence mechanisms on the system and if not uninstalled properly, they could restore themselves.
