CladRumble

After analyzing the CladRumble application, cybersecurity researchers determined that it belongs to the AdLoad adware family. The application has retained most of the distinguishing characteristics of the family. It is designed to target Mac users with the goal of delivering various unwanted advertisements. Users should keep in mind that adware applications are rarely delivered via the normal distribution channels. Instead, the vast majority of these PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs) are added to as shady software bundles, as items already selected for installation or injected into fake installers/updaters.

Once CladRumble has been deployed to the Mac device, the application is likely to run an intrusive advertising campaign. Apart from being disruptive, the advertisements could be promoting various unsafe destinations. Indeed, adware applications are known for advertisements leading to hoax websites, phishing portals, fake giveaways, suspicious adult-oriented platforms or pages spreading additional PUPs.

At the same time, these invasive applications could be silently spying on the browsing activities carried out on the Mac. They could be continuously transmitting the user's browsing history, search history and clicked URLs. In most cases, PUPs also harvest numerous device details that also will be transmitted to a remote server under the control of the app's operators.
