Threat Database Ransomware Bpqd Ransomware

Bpqd Ransomware

Cybercriminals are still relying on the STOP/Djvu Ransomware strain to create new, harmful ransomware threats. One such example is the Bpqd Ransomware, which was first discovered by the cybersecurity analyst that goes by @petrovic082 on Twitter. The threat is completely devoid of any major improvements, but that doesn't make it any less threatening. Computers that have been breached by the Bpqd Ransomware will be subjected to data encryption that will affect nearly all of the files stored on them.

Affected users will no longer be able to open or use any of the encrypted files. Furthermore, each locked file will now have the '.bpqd' file extension attached to its original name. After all targeted data has been processed by the threat, the Bpqd Ransomware will create a new text file on the system. Named '_readme.txt,' this file will carry a ransom note with instructions for the victims.

Demands Overview

Reading the note reveals that the cybercriminals responsible for unleashing the Bpqd Ransomware demand to be paid a ransom of exactly $980. In exchange for the sum, they will supposedly provide their victims with a decryption tool and the necessary keys to restore the locked data. Of course, trusting unscrupulous cybercriminals is almost never a good idea and is always an extremely risky option. Bpqd's note also mentions that users who establish contact during the first 72 hours of the attack will need to pay only $490 as ransom. The email addresses that can be used to reach the hackers are 'support@sysmail.ch' and 'supportsys@airmail.cc.'
