Bettersmurf is a PUP or Potentially Unwanted Program, despite the fact that Bettersmurf is mistakenly referred to as a virus. The main purpose of Bettersmurf is to make money at the expense of computer users by exposing them to advertising material and promoting certain websites associated with this PUP. Bettersmurf may be installed on most Web browsers commonly used on the Windows operating system, including Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox on most commonly used versions of Windows used today, including Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows XP and Windows Vista. There are several types of advertisements associated with Bettersmurf, including video advertisements, sliding advertisements, banner advertisements, pop-up windows and in-text advertisements designed to display intrusive pop-up windows when the mouse passes over highlighted text on unrelated websites. If Bettersmurf is installed on your computer, security researchers recommend its immediate removal from the affected computer.
