Threat Database Mac Malware AnalyzerDivision

AnalyzerDivision

AnalyzerDivision is a dubious application that combines the functionalities of adware and browser hijackers. The application targets Mac users predominantly and is spread via deceptive distribution tactics. This behavior justifies AnalyzerDivision also being classified as a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program).

If the application manages to sneak itself into the user's Mac system, it will activate its adware capabilities immediately. As a result, numerous unwanted and intrusive advertisements will begin to flood the Mac. The advertisements may show appealing offers or luring promises for discounts and giveaways. However, that could be a trap. Engaging with the advertisements could trigger forced redirects leading towards unsafe pages. Users could land on phishing tactics designed to collect information or domains promoting even more PUPs.

The annoying consequences of having AnalyzerDivision installed do not stop there. The PUP also will modify the homepage, new tab page, and the default search engine of the Web browser. All affected settings will then be forced to open a sponsored address, usually that of a fake search engine. Such fake engines lack the ability to generate search results on their own, and, instead, redirect all search queries towards a legitimate engine - Yahoo, Bing, or Google.

PUPs such as AnalyzerDivision also are known for possessing data-harvesting capabilities. They access information related to the user's browsing activities. All visited websites, clicked URLs, performed searches alongside device details such as the IP address, geolocation, and ISP could be packaged and then uploaded to a remote server. The operators of the specific PUP could then try to exploit the gathered information by themselves or sell it to interested parties.
