Issue 'This item is temporarily unavailable' Mac Error

'This item is temporarily unavailable' Mac Error

Users can sometimes encounter the annoying 'This item is temporarily unavailable' Mac error while trying to install new native macOS applications. However, far more frequently, the error appears in connection with the download of a new macOS. While the error might sound like a hassle to deal with, there are a couple of fast and easy solutions that could be able to help.

  1. Apple ID

Make sure that you have connected to your Apple ID as this could prevent you from downloading and installing a new macOS. Users can either go to icloud.com and create a login or use the website on the Mac to log in from there. Another option is going to the Mac App Store and then create an account or login via Apple ID.

Next, make sure that the Apple ID is correct. If you have used an Apple ID to install a previous Mac OS X or macOS that is different from the one currently used on the device to download the newer OS, it might trigger the 'This Item Is Temporarily Unavailable...' error.

  1. Check for data and time problems

Start by going to the date and time in the top menu and making sure that it is working as intended. Then, go to Terminal to further verify it. You can open Terminal from the 'Utilities' subfolder under the Applications folder or by searching for it directly via Spotlight.

Once the Terminal window opens, type in the date command followed by the month, date, time, and year. Use only numbers and do not leave spaces between them (it should look like this: date 050812342021). Close the terminal window, log in to your Apple ID, and check if the problem has been resolved.
