FileFix Professional 2009 is a fake application designed to fix illegally encrypted files, also referred to as a ransomware and for good reason. This rogue is advertised through a Trojan virus named fpfstb.dll. After infection, the afore-mentioned Trojan virus encrypts MS Office documents, PDF files and even plain text documents. Once encrypted, these files become unreadable, and eventually fpfstb.dll Trojan displays alert notifications about corrupted files and recommends downloading FileFix Professional 2009 in order to repair the files.
Alert text appears as this:
"Windows File Protection
Windows detected that some of your MS Office and media files are corrupted. Click here to download and install recommended file repair application."
Once installed and active, FileFix Professional 2009 performs fake scans and displays a variety of encrypted files, but only allowing you to fix one. The other files can only be fixed with the paid version of FileFix Professional 2009. However, this is simply a scam. Purchasing FileFix Professional 2009 will do nothing for your system. Now you see why it's called ransomware.
