Computers have become a vital part of daily life and people depend on them to complete various day-to-day tasks. It would be very hard to image life without computers, let alone a system that performs poorly. So why not take the necessary steps to keep your computer running healthy?

It is very important to perform the proper computer maintenance now rather than later to keep your system running healthy so you do not face potential issues down the road. If you do not have the time to sacrifice to repair your system when it crashes, then you may want to follow and apply our top 5 easy steps to a healthy running computer below.

Here are five important steps to ensure that your system is healthy and running at its peak performance.

Step 1: Perform a registry scan and repair.

An error-free Windows registry is one of the most crucial aspects of maintaining a healthy computer. The Windows registry is a database comprising all software and hardware configuration, user-preferences, and system setup information on the computer. The operating system, applications, and hardware devices, all rely on the registry to perform various operations. These programs add lots of information in the registry and many times, these registry entries are never removed and become redundant. These unwanted entries accumulate in the registry and cause it to grow. A large registry easily gets corrupted and fragmented resulting in frequent errors and annoying system crashes.

To keep your PC healthy, regular repair of the Windows registry is a must. The registry can easily and efficiently be repaired with the help of registry cleaner tools that are specifically designed to detect and remove unwanted entries. These tools are available on the Internet from various sources, some even free. Even a novice computer user can utilize these tools to maintain an error-free registry.

Step 2: Keep your Hard disk free of errors and unwanted files.

The operating system, applications, device drivers, and files are all stored on the hard disk. Your system must access this stored data often to perform any type of operation which is why regular hard disk maintenance is a must.

To maintain a healthy hard disk it is recommended to install only those applications and utilities that you need. Do not clutter your hard disk with unnecessary data because this can cause physical damage. All unwanted files and applications should be removed from the PC. Unnecessary programs and applications not only clutter the hard disk, but create other problems, like Start menu problems, DLL errors, and runtime errors.

The Disk Cleanup tool can easily remove unwanted files and applications from your PC. Ensure that your hard disk is free from fragmented files. To ensure this and defrag the hard disk, use a Disk Defragmenter tool that will improve the performance of your PC.

Step 3: Perform anti-virus and anti-spyware scans.

Malware programs, such as viruses, spyware, trojans, and backdoors, have become a major threat for computer users. These programs disrupt the basic functions of your PC and can also steal data related to your computer and web browsing activities. More troublesome programs have the ability to log keystrokes and take screen shots to collect confidential information, such as credit card numbers, bank account details, usernames and passwords.

To maintain a healthy computer, keep it free from malware programs. To do this, it is necessary to install an updated anti-virus or anti-spyware program. Staying proactive by performing regular virus and spyware scans to remove and prevent any malicious files and programs is also vital.

Step 4: Update your PC with the latest fixes and security releases.

All software and hardware manufacturers release regular hot fixes and patches to resolve security and other performance-related issues in their products. To ensure that your PC is running at peak-performance, you must regularly update your system with these software patches.

Step 5: Keep the computer hardware components clean.

Always keep your computer and the surrounding area clean and dust-free. Dust particles easily penetrate the internal components of the computer and cause physical damage. Open the cover and vacuum the PC to remove this dust and dirt, but be careful not to damage any internal components.

What practices do you take to ensure that your PC is healthy? Are there any steps mentioned above that you fail to practice? Post your comments below and join the discussion.

Yeah, I agree with your opinion. Though there are many ways to solve a slower computer, a simple disk defragmentation can not be missed for it helps easily make the computer run faster and insist on regularly defragmenting my computer. I have found a very wonderful article talking something about this as you can see here: http://ezinearticles.com/?Disk-Defragmentation—Make-Computers-Run-Faster-Soon&id=3162755. Wish all of you enjoy a faster computer every day!
