Adware Do-It-Yourself Removal Instructions

To manually remove Adware, follow these removal steps:

First, Disable System Restore for Windows Me/XP (recommended step)
If you are running Windows Me or Windows XP, we recommend that you temporarily turn off System Restore. Windows Me/XP uses this feature, which is enabled by default, to restore the files on your computer in case they become damaged. If a virus, worm, or Trojan infects a computer, System Restore may back up the virus, worm, or Trojan on the computer.

Follow instructions on how to disable and enable System Restore. When you are completely finished with the removal procedure and are satisfied that the threat has been removed, re-enable System Restore by following the instructions in the aforementioned documents.

Step 1: How to Kill Adware files using Process Explorer.

1a. How to Kill Adware Processes.

  1. Download and install Process Explorer.
  2. Open Process Explorer.
  3. Locate the Adware processes.
  4. To kill an Adware process, right-click the desired process and choose the option "Kill Process Tree".

1b. How to Kill Adware DLL files.

  1. Right-click the Explorer.exe process and choose the option "Properties".
  2. Click on the "Threads" Tab, locate and highlight the Adware DLL files listed below.
  3. To kill Adware DLL files, click the "Kill" button.

Step 2: To delete the value from the registry. How to Delete Adware Registry Keys and Values.

  1. Right-click on your Desktop > select "New" option > select "Text Document" (.txt file) option.
  2. Rename the .txt file as a .reg file and call it "Delete_Registry_
    Adware_Entities.reg"
    . This renamed .reg file is a command that creates a shortcut to your Windows registry and allows you to easily delete registry values.
  3. Right-click and select the "Edit" option.
  4. Copy and paste the Adware parasite keys listed below.
  5. In the menu bar, go to "File" > select "Save" > then click the "X" button to close the file.
  6. Double-click on the .reg file.
  7. When the message box appears saying "Are you sure you want to add the information in C:DOCUME~1%username%DesktopDELETE~1.REG to the registry?", click the "Yes" button.
  8. When the message box appears saying "Information in C:DOCUME~1
    %username%DesktopDELETE~1.REG has been successfully entered into the registry."
    , click the "OK" button.
  9. The Adware parasite registry keys have been deleted from your registry.
  10. Copy and paste all Adware keys.

Step 3: How to Delete Adware Directories.

  1. To locate Adware directories, go to "Start" > "My Computer" > "Local Disk (C:)" > "Program Files" > "Show the contents of this folder".
  2. Search and delete the Adware directories.
  3. Right-click on the Adware parasite folder and select "Delete". option.
  4. When the message box appears saying "Are you sure you want to remove the folder [FOLDERNAME] and move all its contents to the Recycle Bin?", click the "Yes" button.
  5. When the message box appears saying "Renaming, moving or deleting [FOLDERNAME] could make some programs not work. Are you sure you want to do this?", click the "Yes" button.

Step 4: How to Restore Original Default Homepage.

If the presence of the Adware infection and its files have changed your default homepage without any action from you, follow these steps to recover your default homepage.

  1. Go to "Start" > "Control Panel" > "Internet Options".
  2. Click on the General Tab > click the Use Default button under Home Page.
  3. Click "Apply" and then click the "OK" button.
  4. Open a Web browser to verify that your default homepage has been restored.

Step 5: How to Remove Adware Icons.

  1. If the Adware parasite icons still remain on your Desktop, you can drag and drop them to the "Recycle Bin".
  2. Reboot your computer to make sure all changes made for the removal of the Adware infections are complete. If your computer still has issues, you should scan your computer for a rogue anti-spyware program with a spyware scanner.
