Threat Database Rogue Anti-Virus Program Windows Secure Kit 2012

Windows Secure Kit 2012

ESG security researchers have received various reports of a malicious fake scanner from the WinWeb Security family going under the name of Windows Secure Kit 2012. Basically, Windows Secure Kit 2012 displays fake error messages and computer scans trying to convince computer users to download and install a rogue security program. While Windows Secure Kit 2012's error messages can appear while browsing the Internet as an invasive pop-up window displayed on poorly-run websites, it may also have been installed on your computer, pestering you constantly. According to ESG security analysts, Windows Secure Kit 2012 has no way of securing your computer or removing malware in any way, shape or form. Rather, Windows Secure Kit 2012 is simply an updated version of previous scareware applications like System Security, Antivirus Security, Total Security 2009, Security Tool, Trojan.RogueAV.a.gen, System Adware Scanner 2010, FakeAlert-KW.e, Advanced Security Tool 2010, System Tool 2011, Security Shield, MS Removal Tool, Total Security, System Security 2011, Essential Cleaner, Security Shield Pro 2011, Personal Shield Pro, Security Shield 2011, Security Sphere 2012, Advanced PC Shield 2012, Futurro Antivirus. The WinWeb Security family is not a particularly large family of rogue security programs, but once in your computer, they can wreak havoc with the best of them.

Windows Secure Kit 2012 is Closely Linked to Malicious Advertisements

Like most rogue security programs, Windows Secure Kit 2012 is linked to malicious advertisements that often attempt to take advantage of vulnerabilities to attack your computer system. These do not necessarily have to be advertisements promoting Windows Secure Kit 2012 or other fake security programs; ESG security analysts have detected advertisements claiming that you won a prize for being the millionth visitor to a website or an advertisement claiming that you won a free iPad designed to take victims to attack websites which display the Windows Secure Kit 2012 pop-up window apart from a variety of other malicious pop-ups. The Windows Secure Kit 2012 error message will usually claim that an error was found, show a fake scan showing various malware infections and ask for permission to run a scan of your computer. Do not accept it! This supposed fake scan is actually a dangerous malware infection.

Macs are Also in Danger from a Windows Secure Kit 2012-Related Infection

Unlike other rogue security programs, malware associated with Windows Secure Kit 2012 and its family of scareware has been found not to be restricted to the Windows operating system. Fortunately, Windows Secure Kit 2012-related malware is not particularly dangerous or insidious and can be removed with a reliable anti-malware tool with relatively few problems. However, since malware seldom attacks alone, it is recommended to execute a full scan to make sure that Windows Secure Kit 2012 has not brought any friends along.
