Windows Antivirus 2008 or WindowsAntivirus 2008 is a clone of infamous Antivirus 2008 and Antivirus2008Pro. Windows Antivirus 2008 is a rogue anti-spyware program designed to mislead users with false positives scan results and alerts. Once Windows Antivirus 2008 is installed, it starts scanning the user’s computer and will generate exaggerated notifications of imaginary security and privacy risks. These tactics are used to persuade the user into purchasing the commercial version of Windows Antivirus 2008 to clean the supposed threats. Windows Antivirus 2008 is often downloaded and installed via Zlob Trojans disguised as video or audio codecs.

Pest-Patrol is a malicious rogue anti-spyware program created to trick users into purchasing the full Pest-Patrol version. Pest-Patrol attempts to mislead users into believing that it is actually CA PestPatrol, a legitimate anti-spyware program. Pest-Patrol may be downloaded and installed with the help of Trojans that may have infiltrated the user’s computer system through a browser security hole, or via other unconventional and unethical mechanisms. Once installed, Pest-Patrol will generate deceptive notifications of imaginary security and privacy risks to sell its product. Pest-Patrol may also generate system slowdown and instability.

IEAntiSpyware, IE AntiSpyware, IEAntiSpyware 3.2 or IE AntiSpyware 3.2, is a rogue anti-spyware application similar to corrupt IEAntivirus. IEAntiSpyware is often downloaded by a Trojan through a video codec download triggered by a Browser Helper Object (BHO).

Once installed, IEAntiSpyware will generate false warning messages stating: “NOTICE: Your system is infected and your computer performance is not at the highest level. Full system optimization will greatly increase your computer’s performance and prevent data loss”.

If the popup is clicked, the user will be redirected to IEAntiSpyware’s website (www.IEAntiSpyware.com) to buy its product to remove the supposed threats. IEAntiSpyware may also hijack user’s computer search engines, such as MSN, Google and Yahoo. IEAntiSpyware may seem as a legitimate spyware remover, however, it is not.

PCPrivacyCleaner, PC Privacy Cleaner or PC PrivacyCleaner, is a rogue registry cleaner tool often downloaded and installed by a Trojan, such as Zlob or Vundo. PCPrivacyCleaner emulates a computer system scan and generates fake security reports and imaginary errors. Once a notification is clicked, the user will be redirected to the PCPrivacyCleaner website where PCPrivacyCleaner may be downloaded to clean the supposed threats. These scare tactics are only used by PCPrivacyCleaner to sell its product. PCPrivacyCleaner may generate system slowdowns and errors.
