Kaq.Pagerte is an advertising platform, which is used by adware programs and other malicious software to show pop-up advertisements from Kaq.Pagerte.net within Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome. Kaq.Pagerte pop-up advertisements are shown regardless of the Internet browser or search engine, and if a computer user is seeing advertisements from Kaq.Pagerte.net whenever he/she is making a Google search or visiting a website, then his/her PC may be affected by ZeroAccess/Sirefef rootkit, Trojan.Tracur, Pihar rootkit, adware or a potentially unwanted application. Kaq.Pagerte is produced to benefit from web users. Kaq.Pagerte raises web traffic, collects sales leads for other suspicious websites, and shows pop-up ads, sponsored links and Flash update boxes within the hacked Internet browser. Kaq.Pagerte is delivered secretly through infected websites,or genuine websites that have been hacked. Kaq.Pagerte also circulates via spam email messages, which include malevolent attachments or links to dangerous websites. Kaq.Pagerte may also be downloaded manually by duping the computer user into believing they are installing a valuable program. Kaq.Pagerte may also proliferate via peer-to-peer file sharing websites and is often bundled with pirated or illegitimately acquired software products.
