Clampzok.A is a OS X virus which, when executed, spreads among binary files. Clampzok.A is included in a proof-of-concept attack that seems to be the first true viral malware approach for taking over OS X. Clampzok.A is a cross-platform malware package that changes the binary files on an infected computer system so, when executed, the binary will corrupt neighboring binary files. Clampzok.A is written in assembly code, and was originally released in 2006 for Windows and Linux systems, but was recently updated to target 32-bit Mach-O binary files in OS X PCs. Clampzok.A strives to circulate around the computer system. Clampzok.A inserts itself into the compiled code of an executable or into the structure of a file, changing it significantly so that when the file is read, Clampzok.A is executed and further inserts itself around the computer system, wreaking havoc on the PC's ability to function.
