Broadband-search.com was advertised by adware and free programs as a potent search service that may be a better alternative to Microsoft's Bing and Yahoo. The Broadband-search.com portal is associated with cases of browser hijacking where an add-on was used to redirect users to Broadband-search.com and generate traffic to advertisements. Broadband-search.com was brought down near the end of 2015 and was used to produce a considerable pay-per-visitor marketing revenue. Broadband-search.com provided visitors with search results in text, image and video formats but lacked filtering and security measures that were present in many of its competitors at the time. Moreover, the 64.74.172.125 IP address of Broadband-search.com is related to many cyber threats. Computer users that loaded Broadband-search.com risked being infected with threats like:
- Artemis!8E1829C15777
- HEUR:Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Generic
- TR/Dropper.A.13573
- TROJ_GEN.R02SC0OEB15
- Unwanted-Program (004d5a951)
- Win32/Packed.Komodia.D
- Win32:Adware-gen [Adw]
As you can imagine, the Broadband-search.com search portal was far from being a safe service provider. The browser hijacker linked to the portal was not a severe threat to the user's security and was not recognized as malware. However, Windows users faced risks when loading resources via Broadband-search.com and most AV vendors and Web filtering services like Google Safe Browsing, and Mozilla Phishing Protection started to show warnings on the screen of their customers. Computer users that might have problems with Broadband-search.com and pages related to the domain should consider using a reliable anti-malware scanner to remove riskware and browser hijacking add-ons that may cause unwanted redirects.
