The 'BK LPD' Ransomware Trojan is a variant of the Urausy family of Police Ransomware Trojans that attacks computer systems located in Austria. Computer systems outside of Austria will rarely become infected with the 'BK LPD' Ransomware variant and may, instead, be infected with Urausy variants corresponding to the targeted computer's location. Like other Police Ransomware Trojans, the 'BK LPD' Ransomware attack scams its victims with a bogus police message. The 'BK LPD' Ransomware Trojan is basically designed to convince computer users that they need to pay fake police fines in order to avoid prosecution.

It is essential to keep in mind that there is no real connection between the police and the 'BK LPD' Ransomware. However, the 'BK LPD' Ransomware message will do everything in its power to convince you otherwise. This is due to the fact that the 'BK LPD' Ransomware Trojan uses social engineering techniques to scam inexperienced computer users. ESG security researchers strongly advise computer users to avoid following the 'BK LPD' Ransomware's instructions and to remove this threat from the infected computer immediately with a reliable anti-malware program. Fully updated software should also be used to prevent future infections involving the 'BK LPD' Ransomware and its variants.

The 'BK LPD' Ransomware Message is Very Frightening

Malware like the 'BK LPD' Ransomware Trojan uses two approaches, attacking both computer users and their computer systems. Attacking the victim's computer involves the use of a Winlocker component to take the infected computer hostage. The 'BK LPD' Ransomware prevents all access to the victim's operating system and files, disables Windows components that would normally be used to deal with these types of infections, and makes changes to the victim's operating system settings that ensure that the 'BK LPD' Ransomware Trojan loads automatically upon start-up.

One of the main aspects of 'BK LPD' Ransomware attacks, as well as its numerous clones that include the 'Comandancia General de Policía' Ransomware, the 'Dansk Rigspolitiet' Ransomware and the 'Police Judiciaire Fédérale' Ransomware, is that this malware threat attempts to convince the computer user that the infected computer was blocked by the Austrian police. The 'BK LPD' Ransomware infection claims that the Winlocker is actually part of a police operation due to the infected computer being used in illegal activities. The 'BK LPD' Ransomware then claims that it is possible to prevent prosecution if the computer user is willing to pay a bogus police fine. This payment is usually made through an electronic payment service such as Ukash or PaySafeCard.
